One big myth is that somehow acne is caused by having a bad diet and because you are unhealthy. Acne is way more complex than the beauty world makes it seem. And many people are led to believe that acne can be easily solved by over-the-counter cosmetics. Not to say, there aren’t great things out there on the market, but with acne, there is a much bigger story.

Acne vulgaris is a disorder of the pilosebaceous follicle which is made up of 1) a hair follicle and 2) oil-producing sebaceous glands. It can appear differently in various people and we can actually identify what type of acne is present and how severe it is.
We have tiny holes on our skin basically known as hair follicles. The hair follicles pores are attached to the gland known as the “sebaceous gland” which releases the sebum. Acne conditions occurred when the pores get blocked with bacteria, oil, or dead skin that prevent sebaceous glands from secret the sebum.
Acne can cause a skin condition of spots, oily skin, and sometimes tender or sore skin on the face, back, and chest. That is why it is advised to treat acne issues as soon as possible. The aim of an acne spot treatment is to prevent scarring and clear spots.
The best way to treat acne depends on the symptoms. Some of the acne treatments are – topical retinoids and antibiotics as well as skin rejuvenation treatments such as microneedling, chemical peels, zo facial treatment, etc.

Acne is related to:

  • 1. Increased activity of the oil-producing sebaceous glands and/ or sometimes associated with a defect in how the oil (sebum) exits your pores.

  • 2. The presence of hormones (androgens) in your circulation, which causes your glands to produce more oil (sebum), which may eventually lead to clogged pores.

  • 3. Plugging/ clogging of the hair follicle because of abnormal keratinisation of the skin. This eventually leads to the formation of whiteheads/blackheads (also known as comedones). Comedones are made up of oil, dead skin cells, and bacterial cells.

  • 4. The bacterium (Propionibacterium acnes) in the hair follicle can live on the fatty acids from the oil (sebum). This will cause them to grow and multiply in number and when mixed with dead skin cells they can clog your pores and cause inflammation.

It is typically grouped into 4 stages:

  • 1st stage: Comedonal acne = clogged pores or closed comedones are whiteheads; and comedones that are open are blackheads.

  • 2nd stage: Inflammatory acne = pimples or papules (small & raised, <5mm) and pustules (small, raised pimples, filled with yellow pus)

  • 3rd stage: Nodulocystic acne = nodules (pimples larger than >5mm, raised, round) and cysts (large and raised spots filled with pus/ large pustules)

  • 4th stage: Acne scarring = pits and depressions in the skin and hyperpigmented areas. Usually, scars occur when inflammation is present in the dermis of the skin.

What else you need to know!

If your acne is comedonal, then it means that you have clogged pores and they can become enlarged and cause inflammatory or nodulocystic acne. If identified early enough that can be prevented and your doctor can help you with treatments that can break down the plug formation in your pores.

The treatment also varies according to what your acne is related to. Therefore doctors give treatment options with these preventative measures in mind.

    For the Best Outcome:

Treatments for acne spots and scars can take 6 months to a year, but typically patients will see results after just 6- 8 weeks. We recommend at least 5-6 months to maintain good skin health and improve acne!

Depends! Some acne treatments have zero downtime but depend on how aggressive the treatment approach is.

Acne is the most common inflammatory condition known to the skin – and it affects almost every one of us at some point in our lives. It’s a complex skin condition caused by multiple factors, including poor cell turnover, excess oil production, inflammation, and acne bacteria. Acne can be classified into 3 different types:

Mild – This is the first phase of acne, where you will see whiteheads and blackheads on your face or skin.

Moderate – In the Moderate phase, you will see the whiteheads, blackheads, papules, and pustules.

Severe – This is a serious situation where you may face many painful papules and pustules, as well as nodules or cysts.

If you get aware at the initial phase, then the acne spots will not get increased. Try to get the best acne treatment as soon as possible.

Acne is caused when tiny holes in the skin, known as hair follicles, become blocked. Acne develops when sebum — an oily substance that lubricates your hair and skin — and dead skin cells plug hair follicles.

Food that contains high fat, sugar, sugary drinks, chocolates, and dairy ingredients may cause skin acne. Hormonal changes or hormonal imbalance can also cause acne. Get the best acne scar treatment at the right time to avoid serious acne conditions.

Whiteheads: A whitehead is a type of acne that forms when dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria become trapped within one of your pores. Whiteheads remain under the skin and are small in size.

Blackheads: Blackheads are small bumps on the skin that result from clogged hair follicles. These are black and clearly visible on the skin.

Papules: A papule is a raised area of skin tissue that’s less than 1 centimeter around. Usually, papules are small, pink bumps, and visible on the skin.

Pustules: A pustule is a bulging patch of skin that’s full of a yellowish fluid called pus. These are clearly visible on the skin, they are red at their base and have pus at the top.

Nodules: Nodules are hard, painful acne lesions deep under the skin. These are clearly visible on the skin, they are embedded deep in the skin.

Cysts: Cystic acne is the most serious type of acne. It develops when cysts form deep underneath your skin. Cysts are clearly visible on the skin, they are painful and filled with pus and cysts can cause scars.

Acne and acne spots mainly affect teenagers and young adults undergoing hormonal changes. People keep struggling with acne in their 20s, 30s, and beyond. Acne is most common in girls from the ages of 14 to 17, and in boys from the ages of 16 to 19.

Here are some natural acne treatment tips, if you have any acne –

    • Do not wash the acne-affected area again and again. Frequent washing can irritate the skin and make symptoms worse.
    • Do not squeeze, touch, clean out the blackheads. This may result in scarring.
    • Avoid using too much make-up and cosmetics or products with pore-clogging ingredients.
    • Don’t over dry the affected area.
    • Keep your skin moisturized.
    • Avoid hot water on the skin.
    • If you find the skin acne condition serious, consult a doctor for acne treatment.

Unfortunately, there is no such way, where you can permanently get rid of blackheads. But you can prevent acne & blackheads at some extent if you keep using monthly deep-pore cleansing facials, cleanse skin with salicylic acid, use oil-free sunscreen or products. Exfoliate skin once or twice in a week.

Our personalized blackhead treatment, acne treatment, and skin rejuvenation treatments are designed to achieve clear skin and prevent breakouts. Topical treatments are usually the first choice for treating acne that’s mild to moderate in its severity.

We use active ingredients with decades of evidence in treating acne – chosen specifically for your skin type and your skin goals.

Whether you suffer from the odd hormonal spot each month, or cystic acne that just won’t go away – we’re here to help. If your acne spot is more severe, or if you’re suffering from scarring, we’d usually advise you to also book a face-to-face appointment, as you might need tablets to treat your skin.
